More About The Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog
The Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog is believed to be a self portrait of Friedrich. It depicts a man standing upon a rocky precipice gazing at the scenery before him. The place that inspired the scene was said to be Elbsandsteingebirge, in Saxony and Bohemia. The mountain to the right was identified as Zirkelstein. The mountain to the left could either be the Rosenberg or the Kaltenberg. The painting is currently at the Kunsthalle Hamburg in Germany.
