More about The Volunteers
Frederic Daniel Hardy specialized in light-hearted scenes depicting children in detailed Victorian rooms.  “The Volunteers” depict two children marching and pretending to be volunteers.  A girl is playing a drum while the other one dressed as a soldier follows her closely.  The other children and family members look on in amusement. The painting is currently a part of the collection of York Museums Trust.
