The Tryst (Interior)
$191.00 – $3,014.00
– Although only a few of Jean-Leon Gerome’s orientalist paintings were created from direct observation, he presented a view of the Orient that managed to capture the imagination of a western audience.
– The Orientalist painting suggests that there’s forbidden love in any culture and like any culture, the lovers find many ways to defy the restrictions. Surely, many young men and women will identify with the couple depicted in the painting.

More about The Tryst
Jean-Leon Gerome was known for his orientalist paintings influenced by his travel to Egypt in 1856. The exterior version of The Tryst shows a male sitting on top of a tall camel, reaching to kiss a woman behind a window. The interior version shows the same woman standing on the back of another woman to reach the window. The pair of paintings is now at the Saint Louis Art Museum in Missouri.
