More about The Bar at the Folies Bergere
The Folies-Bergère was the first music hall in Paris. The Bar at the Folies Bergere depicts a scene in the nightclub. A barmaid stands behind a bar while a mirror reveals a man in front of her. The subject of the painting was a woman named Suzon who worked at the Folies-Bergère during the 1880’s. A pair of feet belonging to a trapeze artist can be seen in the upper left corner of the image. The painting is currently at the Courtauld Institute of Art in London.
