Sunday Afternoon on the Grande Jatte
$189.00 – $814.00
This is a wonderful example of pointillism note the dots and tiny brushstrokes. The reproductions look the same way and although they are time consuming to do the results are worth it
The painting can be seen at the Art Institute of Chicago, and features in the classic film Ferris Buellers Day Off
The painting is important artistically, full of detail, and heavily influenced by scientific research of the time “Some say they see poetry in my paintings,” Seurat said, “I see only science.

More about Sunday Afternoon on the Grande Jatte
The painting was of the island of la Grande Jatte, in the Seine. At the time it was a quiet retreat from urban life.
Georges Seurat spent two years working on this painting, and finally exhibited it in 1886. As a result he became regarded as the leader of a new art movement, Neo-Impressionism.
Seurat, 1859-1891, was a serious, dedicated artist who wanted to make an impact on the world of art. By being the catalyst for Neo-Impressionism through Sunday Grande Afternoon on the Grande Jatte, he achieved that goal.
