– Tom Roberts was one of the first painters to recognize the special character of the Australian landscape. The Australian author Robert Henderson Croll wrote his biography and gave it the title “Tom Roberts: Father of Australian Landscape Painting”.
– The painting was part of the 9 by 5 Impression Exhibition which remains as a celebrated event in Australian art history. Only a third of the paintings from the exhibition survive today.
