More about The Storm on the Sea of Galilee
As Rembrandts only seascape, he chose a good topic to illustrate a biblical miracle. It is regarded as one of his most dramatic paintings, and illustrated that the ultimate portrait artist and just 27 years old at the time – could tackle other themes too.
Interestingly, the use of light in the painting bears Rembrandts hallmark, with one side illuminated and the other in shade, for great effect.
