Belshazzar’s Feast
0 out of 5A Rembrandt is a must-have in any personal collection – he was one of the greatest painters and printmakers in Europe, and the most significant in Dutch history.
If you love detailed paintings, Belshazzar’s Feast is a great example. The artist used distinctive features on the main character – from his gold and silver costume, to the chains and turban as adornments. The supporting characters lack the same extravagance, but the details on their clothing and headpieces and the objects on the table contribute to the story.
This a great conversation piece especially among art lovers who are fascinated by paintings that tell a story and convey emotions.Select optionsQuick View -

The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp
0 out of 5The scene depicts Dr. Nicolaes Tulp explaining the muscles of the arm in a glimpse of early modern medicine
Anatomy lessons were quite fashionable at the time. The body would have belonged to a criminal, and public dissections took place once a year at the Amsterdam Guild of Surgeons
The detail and expressions are captivating. It reminds of a modern photo, and in fact the people in the painting probably paid to be included in the selfie (with the exception of the corpse, of course )Select optionsQuick View -

This is also a great conversation piece because there are numerous symbolic objects worth deciphering within the painting.
In pop culture, this panting appeared a few times: in the 5th episode of Hunted the painting was commissioned by British merchants; in Green Day’s album ‘Insomniac’, the artwork has the same image of the anamorphic skull; in the film Calvary (2014), one of the characters urinates on the paintingSelect optionsQuick View -

Sunday Afternoon on the Grande Jatte
0 out of 5This is a wonderful example of pointillism note the dots and tiny brushstrokes. The reproductions look the same way and although they are time consuming to do the results are worth it
The painting can be seen at the Art Institute of Chicago, and features in the classic film Ferris Buellers Day Off
The painting is important artistically, full of detail, and heavily influenced by scientific research of the time “Some say they see poetry in my paintings,” Seurat said, “I see only science.Select optionsQuick View -
