0 out of 5As one of the fourteen in Goya’s Black Paintings (paintings directly created onto the walls of the artist’s home sometime between 1819 and 1823), it is a great piece to own since the artist himself did not intend to show these paintings to the public.

The Birth of Venus
0 out of 5Iconic and a landmark of 15th century (thats right over 500 years ago!) painting
Venus was an earthly goddess who aroused physical love, and a heavenly goddess who inspired intellectual love
Venus emerges from the sea as a woman, arriving at the shore Bond movie, anyone?
Many interpretations exist of the meaning of the painting, including one likely one that it is based on a poem. Another is that it was a wedding painting to suggest correct behavior for the couple to be marriedSelect optionsQuick View -

The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp
0 out of 5The scene depicts Dr. Nicolaes Tulp explaining the muscles of the arm in a glimpse of early modern medicine
Anatomy lessons were quite fashionable at the time. The body would have belonged to a criminal, and public dissections took place once a year at the Amsterdam Guild of Surgeons
The detail and expressions are captivating. It reminds of a modern photo, and in fact the people in the painting probably paid to be included in the selfie (with the exception of the corpse, of course )Select optionsQuick View -
