A Bend In The Road
Cézanne’s hometown of Provence was immortalized in his series of landscapes. The motif of a turning road also played an important role in Cézanne’s paintings.
This painting is one of several works by Cézanne that exhibited the simplicity that inspired Cubism and abstract painting.
A Magnolia On Red Velvet
Martin Johnson Heade was not popular during his lifetime but he was later recognized as one of the most important American artists of his generation. His works are now in the collection of several major Museums in America.
His works often turn up in unlikely places all over America. One of his works that depict a magnolia was used to cover a hole in the wall of a house in Indiana. It was bought by The Museum of Fine Arts in Houston for $1,250,000 in 1999. Another one was purchased from a rummage sale for $29 which was then sold at an auction for $882,500…but there is some evidence that there are quite a few good forgeries out there though
- Waterhouse was supposed to submit this to the Royal Academy as his diploma work but it was not completed in time. A critic named Anthony Hobson remarked that this was his “most delicate conceptions, and understandably he had lingered long in bringing it to perfection.”
- A Mermaid is unique compared to the other works of Waterhouse. Most of his works paint specific scenes from literature or mythology while A Mermaid is derived from imagination.
A Soul Brought to Heaven
The artist and his works almost fell into oblivion. At first famous and highly regarded, he became unpopular after 1920 and many in the art world belittled his work. However, his contemporaries, Degas and Monet reportedly named him as the painter who would most likely be remembered by the year 2000.
The values of his paintings soared after a show of his work in 1974 rehabilitated Bouguereaus reputation. His works were eagerly bought at high prices, and reproductions of his artwork are reportedly selling by the millions worldwide even outselling the reproductions of paintings by the most famous modernists.
It is a very intriguing painting in that there is no clear depiction of where the right side up actually is. Each of the elements in his artwork can be seen standing upright, on the edge of the painting, by rotating it.
It makes use of symbols and figures to provoke the unconscious mind
It is said that his paintings can take a lot of time to look at. You can never have too much of Paul Klees work his paintings are one that will make you want to stay alert and keep your curiosity alive. His works are unique, innovative, humorous and playful.
Adam and Eve
Bewilder your guests by showing them this unique depiction of the scene in the Garden of Eden. Fat versions of Adam and Eve would surely be a great conversation starter.
Adam and Eve were favorite subjects of the artist. Aside from their depiction in this painting, he made sculptures of them and also painted them separately.
Popular cultural icon and, frankly, a hugely entertaining painting.
It won a prize at the Art Institute of Chicago, was bought by the museum, and still hangs there today
There is a lot of symbolism in the painting, from the hayfork to the expressions to the plants on the porch (a geranium and a mother-in-laws tongue)
Among The Sierra Nevada Mountains
Bierstadt joined several journeys of the Westward Expansion to paint the sceneries in his artwork.
The captivating beauty of nature is wonderfully illustrated in this work of art. The painting will take the viewer to a serene and majestic scene and also inspire the viewer to explore and experience nature first hand.
